Portfolio > Public/Private

This series is comprised of the words “public” and “private” superimposed on one another in repeated sets. The words are in either red or blue and are activated when wearing 3D glasses to further jumble the words. The work was made out of the experience running virtual kindergarten during the pandemic lockdown and challenges the notion that public and private spaces are split immutably and discretely. While the delineation between public and private space can be a useful tool, ultimately these distinctions arise out of evolving human language and are applied to a reality that exceeds binary categorization. These delineations are collectively agreed upon and constantly renegotiated. Public and private spaces are in a transactional dialogue – events taking place in one space shape and inform the other through a constant transgression of the constructed binary split.
